I make image copies of my operating system Acronis True Image. I reloaded my operating system image using Acronis True Image and tried again. Same results, A system that would no longer boot. I did some research and bought DriverCleaner. I followed the instructions and I was able to get the new ATI video card drivers installed and have a system that would boot.
Maybe there is no need for software like this. The one thing I know is that the Ideal world of "Plug and Play" just does not exist. It is getting better but still has a long way to go. I've tried restoring all the drivers that were removed by DriverSweeper, and have also restored all the drivers manually from the download links that were posted in another forum.
I've also run the System Update Readiness tool several times. After taking these measures, Windows Update finally allowed me to successfully download and install SP1. Reverting Changes Then Windows boots normally. I run Win7 Ultimate, and have I also have System Restore and some other services that I did not need disabled. Are there any services you think may be effecting the ability to install SP1? After poking around my logs, it looks as though I'm still missing some files, but it's all greek to me.

I tried working with a Microsoft person incident SRX but that was not productive. The suggested remedy was a windows reinstall. One of my friends also had an SP1 issue, and working with some people at HP, they reinstalled all the windows updates and then installed them again, in some proper sequence.

Is that still being supported. Question: I've made a lot of tries at this and have some pretty long log files. Should I zip up everything and send it all, or would it be more convenient for you if I cleared out any of the log directories, tried again, and zipped up just the logs for the current failure. Asks for restart 2 upon restart it says installation error and reverse changes. How can it roll back because of an error and then say no error found?
Hi, don't know if this will help anyone here, but I had the same problem with this update failing to install on restart. It installed ok up until that point but then failed and reverted to original settings. It took two tries to install update, but after installation background graphics in all programs, including internet Explorer, Google and websites were either missing or pixelated. After spending two hours trying to figure out what was wrong with my computer, I had to restore to to resolve the problem.
