I have looked it up. If you want to live at home until you are 21 the it would not be a bad route. Just my opinion. In case you didn't know, Howard county also has an auxilary police unit, cadet program, and Explorer post. They don't pay though.

Applications, which include a Confidential Questionnaire, will be screened for employment eligibility by the City of Gaithersburg. Candidates selected to move forward in the process must complete a comprehensive applicant questionnaire and undergo an extensive selection process which includes a written examination, writing sample, preliminary fitness test, structured interview, a stringent background investigation and truth verification testing.
Can I be a Cadet and attend college? Yes, it is required that all Cadets be full-time college students. Do Cadets have to be a Criminal Justice major?
Can I apply if I am currently in the process to get citizenship? Yes, as long as you are a U. Citizen before appointment.
